‘Breakfast Plates’ was presented in October 2022 as an off-site project organised by SupaStore in collaboration with Rochester Square. With a breakfast viewing event that took place during Frieze Week at Toklas Bakery, Frieze founders Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp’s eatery at 180 the Strand, the morning gathering transformed the bakery into a temporary exhibition and marketplace for artist editions.
Forty-one artists were invited to hand-paint stoneware plates that were thrown by Ooak Studio at the Rochester Square Ceramic Workshop. The resulting collection brought together a wide range of visual approaches and artistic languages.
By combining ceramics, café culture and artist editions, the project demonstrated SupaStore’s ability to intersect with different cultural fields while remaining grounded in artistic production. The event highlighted the convivial and collaborative dimension of SupaStore and its capacity to respond to the rhythms and temporalities of the art calendar.
